Appraisal Disciplines

Gems & Jewelry appraisers prepare USPAP-compliant appraisals of diamonds, gemstones, and jewelry.

ASA-accredited Gems & Jewelry appraisers by training and experience are familiar with the jewelry marketplace and are schooled in market research and analysis. Many work in the jewelry industry. Some — who hold the ASA designation and are either Graduate Gemologists (GG) of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or Fellows of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (FGA) — have earned the Master Gemologist Appraiser® (MGA) designation, and are qualified both to appraise and authenticate gems and jewelry.

Gems & Jewelry appraisers render expert appraisals for insurance, estate tax, equitable distribution, charitable donation, dissolution of marriage, bankruptcy, sale and other purposes.

Gems & Jewelry appraisers may be qualified in one or more of the following specialties: diamonds and unmounted colored gemstones, contemporary jewelry, art and designer jewelry, Native American and/or other collectible ethnic jewelry, antique and period jewelry, rough gemstones, gemstone carvings, or mineral specimens.
